Last.FM scrobbling

Post by glitztech »

I know there are numerous threads on this but nothing suggested seems to work.

I have Media Monkey 3.0.2.1134

I want to scrobble all the mp3s from a monitored folder to Last.FM

What do I need to install?
Do I need the Last.FM client?

I did have the Last.FM service running but don't seem to be able to get it to run anymore and can't find the link to it on here

You should only use ONE of the options below. Using multiple plugins will result in your last.fm scrobbles being lost.

Option #1 - (Using last.fm client - I have tested this, it works - but you will be pestered with upgrade messages)
1. Download this: http://static.last.fm/plugins/ass/Winam ... 0.45.0.exe
2. Install to \Program Files\Mediamonkey\Plugins
3. When last.fm tells you to update your plugin, don't do it, the newest plugin doesn't work.
4. Scrobble!

Option #2 - (Old winamp standalone plugin - works but no support for foreign languages and seems to forget your login info periodically)
1. Download this: http://static.last.fm/plugins/audioscro ... 1.1.10.exe
2. Install to \Program Files\Mediamonkey\Plugins\
3. Choose 'General' option rather than 'Media library' option when installing.
4. Restart MM or start it, and go into Tools -> Options -> General Plug-ins to enter your login information
5. Scrobble!

Option #3 - (Native MM last.fm plugin - Requires at least MediaMonkey version 3.1; Only one that Scrobbles Unicode Tracks Correctly; Does NOT need Last.fm Util/player to be installed (And if it is installed suggested action is to disable Scrobbling of tracks played in last.fm player)).
1. Download at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 34632&sd=d
2. Double-click the downloaded file, and agree to install
3. Go to Tools > Options > Last.fm Service to configure your username and password

With option 2 we don't need Last.FM Client? I was using option 1 but the update message was driving me nuts.

I don't know how I missed option 2. Installed now and working perfectly.

Thanks,

I'm gonna keep using option 2 till either an MM plugin is made or the latest winamp plugin works. those update messages are annoying.

There already is a native MM plugin (option 3) but it is quite buggy for many.

This is true but since I can't get the MM native plugin to do anything, option 2 is better than nothing.

Here is how I got the messages to stop:

1. Uninstall Last-fm

2. Download the Winamp plug-in following the instructions for option #1 above.

3. Re-install Last-fm and when the program installs, don't let it check for plugins. I only get updates when the Last-fm program is updated. I am never asked about plugin updates. I don't remember how I told the program what needs to get scrobbled but it has worked fine for months.

I still hope that the native plugin will work some day. I do use the Last-fm program to help check my tags.

I just stumbled on the list of 3 options to use with Last.fm.
Option 2 works fine for me and I am so glad to get rid of that annoying update window.
I just wish someone would get the native MM plugin to work right.

The native plug-in was working until it didn't. Option 2 is working perfectly.

Option two works, but it doesn't seem to update the latest played tracks off of my iPod when I sync it. Is it supposed to?

If not, how can I get those tracks to update? I listen to much more music on the iPod rather than through MM, and I'd like an accurate last.fm list....

No, none of the above options sync the iPod, just songs played in MM. There are tools to sync iPods only, see

http://qtscrob.sourceforge.net/

or

http://www.lastpod.org/

Just make sure that you run either of these tools before syncing an iPod with MM, since MM will delete the playcounts when the iPod is re-synched.

And before Scrobbling with the Monkey or LastFM will treat LastPod submissions as spam.
