Re: MM Stream

Hmmm... I'd forgotten how rubbish iThings are at handling DLNA; can't find an app that allows the iThing to become a remotely-controlled DMR. Lots that offer DMC features, but not DMR. Just about every Android DLNA app I've used makes the app's DMR available for remote control. The nearest I found w...

Re: MM Stream

I'm sure your laptop has WiFi. As does the iPod Touch (?). MM supports playback to a DLNA DMR (digital media renderer) client. You can send DLNA via WiFi. So you need a DLNA client app for the iPod Touch that allows the app to operate as a DMR (to play music streamed to it by MM). Go play: https://w...

Re: Experience ripping a large number of CD's for MM?

I'm a little late to this topic, but here are my thoughts. 1. Rip to a lossless format. Don't even think of ripping direct to a lossy format (MP3, AAC, WMA, etc.). Ripping is a time-consuming, tedious, physically painful process (when your collection runs to thousands of CDs, and you bend and twist ...

Re: Generating genre from folders

I'm sorry, but who in their right mind organises their physical library using genre? Genre is very subjective, and most online metadata is 'wrong' regarding genre. Store your physical library by <album artist>/<album>/<track title> (to match your actual physical collection of CDs), then you can easi...

I hear it will also whiten teeth, freshen breath and cure my cynicism, making me a happier, more rounded, better human being.

Chromecast Audio support would be nice, too. Like MMA has...

Re: MMW on Win8.1 tablet: recommendations?

> I never got anything good out of Auto-DJ. All I want from Auto-DJ is a random selection from my collection. I don't care that it throws up eclectic selections, such as death metal followed by gregorian chant. I'm not using it to host club raves or parties; it's just me listening... MM meets that n...

Re: MMW on Win8.1 tablet: recommendations?

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I've been following the MMA Beta programme since I first got my Android tablet, and it simply isn't a patch on MMW; doesn't have the functions, versatility or user interface of MMW. I don't actively use it on any Android devices, preferring BubbleUPnP. I've just download...

MMW on Win8.1 tablet: recommendations?

I have a litte Win8.1 tablet, bought especially to use as a MMW player (running in Win8.1 desktop mode, rather than the Fischer-Price mode), connected by WiFi, and streaming to DLNA players around the house. Auto-DJ is my driving motivation... This basically works, but there are problems with Window...

Re: memory use?

The media is stored on a NAS, so no media copying is required.

But, yes, I copied the mm.db file as a quick way of setting up the library, rather than have it scan 1.5TB of media via WiFi.

Re: memory use?

Right: fired up the Viewsonic. Run MM. Enable artwork browser. Commit, working and private all rise in very similar manner, peaking at about 450/438/415MB. 1130MB memory used in total. Art browser working fine, with no error reports. That commit figure appears to be the problem; it's the total of phy...

Re: memory use?

Let it run to error this time. Commit up to 1.5GB, working up to 650MB, then dropped back to 200MB. MM brings up error messages about insufficient memory to complete operation, and unable to create thread. Cannot get to menus, so had to kill task. Memory instantly dumped. Amazing how much memory is ...

Re: memory use?

Right, now that I've reported sensible use for the show art view, I turned on the art browser. commit went up to 900MB, working to 425MB, private to 410MB, with Task Manager reporting 400MB. As it looked like it was about to go into 100% physical total, I switched back to show art. Working and priva...

Re: memory use?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure that the memory use difference is expected. The images used in both cases are small thumbnails, so they're only a few tens of kB. So, unless it's caching all artwork in working memory, I can't see it needing that much (and wouldn't it cache the same images for bo...

memory use?

I have about 65k tracks. I have recently bought a little Windows 8.1 tablet to run MM. It has 1GB of memory. When I run up MM, with the Art Browser selected, the memory load ramps up until all 1GB is used up, and a lot of error reports are generated. With a different view selected (e.g. 'Show Art'),...
