Re: Eliminating duplicates
Hi jimahrens: MM identifies the drive upon which music files reside by the drive serial number, not the label or drive letter. So if you move files to a new drive, it can cause the problem that we both are seeing. There are several threads on this topic, including: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/v...

Re: Update Location of Files in Database 1.3 (2012-06-12) [M
I have a basic usage question, please. I copied my MM database and music track library from one computer to another. The drive letter and paths are identical. However, tracks are grayed out. When I Add/Rescan tracks, I get duplicate track listings in MM. Instructions for this script say: "Selec...

Re: Eliminating duplicates
I have a similar problem. I cloned the MM database from an old PC drive to a new PC drive, then configured MM on the new PC. Then I had MM add/rescan everything. This resulted in duplicates of all tracks in MM. From reading these threads, I believe the problem is that the database contains serial nu...

Re: MM rating stored in Flac tag?
Thanks, Lowlander. Excellent response - it filled in some gaps in my understanding. By the way, it appears that Tools > Advanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags will not write a tag frame to the audio (Flac) file if the content of the tag is empty. In other words, there has to be data in the MM ta...

MM rating stored in Flac tag?
Hi: I have a library that's 95% Flac and 5% mp3. I am trying to determine where the MM rating field is stored. Is it stored in the MM database? In Flac tag frames? Both? Ideally, the rating should be stored in a Flac tag frame. But when using MP3Tag and Kid3, I do not see it. Is there a way to force...

Got it - thanks very much! I had altered my display columns, so I knew about that at one time

Re: Tagging best practices suggestions, please?
Lowlander: Sorry, I am confused. In MM -> Album & Artist view, I see these columns:
Title | Artist | Album | Date | Genre | Rating | and a few more
You said there are two fields: Artist and Album Artist. I only see Artist. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Fred

Tagging best practices suggestions, please?
Hi: I have the following structure in Artist & Album view in the MM database: Peter Kater (artist) ---- How the West Was Lost (album - indented) ---- Pursuit of Happiness (album) Peter Kater & R. Carlos Nakai (artist) ---- Natives (album) For purposes of organization, I am inclined to consol...

Re: Tags and changing Album Artist and Title display
Lowlander: Thank you for your reply. I was wrong - everything is working correctly! Summary ------------ I checked and Tools > Options > Tags & Playlists is set. I think it was not set in the past, which caused the problems I encountered. I ran some tests to confirm that MM is indeed working cor...

Tags and changing Album Artist and Title display
Hi: I rip using Exact Audio Copy and compress as FLAC. When ripping, I grab track titles from FreeDB. Then in MM, I Add/Rescan the new tracks to add them to the MM database. In the MM Album Artist and Title display, I end up with some misspelled entries like: Claudia Villa - track 1 - track 2 Claudi...

Display Format for Long Titles - new option
Hi: Under options -> Player -> Display Format for Long Titles, there are two options: Scroll and Bounce. Both are distracting when I am trying to work. I would like to suggest a two more options: Static (where the title field is left justified and nothing in the title field moves). Smaller (where th...

Re: No playback on laptop, but desktop ok
Hi: Ok, I installed and ran the script identified above. But I could not get it to work correctly. So I found this thread: How to Tell MediaMonkey Your Files Are on a New Drive http://www.plasticsun.com/GiantInternational/Misc/MediaMonkeyNewDrive.htm I followed the procedures and edited the MM datab...

Thank you! I will try this approach within two days. I'll post here if it does not work.
Thanks again,

Re: No playback on laptop, but desktop ok
Hmmm. I viewed a track in MM, then right clicked, then selected properties. The path of the track is: [Music1]\Music\Music Library\... followed by the rest of the path. But that's the label on the drive connected to the desktop. The laptop music drive label is: [Bkp]\Music\Music Library\... I checke...
