Re: Monkey Rok 4.0 [MM2+3]

Ok, I can't figure this one out... If a song is by "Artist A; Artist B" and "Artist A" is in the excluded list, should the track be excluded completely, or should the track be included but treat the artist as "Artist B"? If anyone's got an opinion, that would be great!...

Re: Monkey Rok 4.0 [MM2+3]

MonkeyRok really does need better multi-artist handling at the moment. I'm really impressed with this script, but due to this one thing I find I can no longer leave it turned on. Many of the results have become fairly useless, and there's up to a 10 second lag (after starting a song playing) during ...

Re: How many WAV files can MM handle?

I don't think there's an upper limit on tracks / files that MM can keep track of within its database (it matters not whether they are wav's or mp3's). http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=30 I don't know if this is relevant to your situatio...

Re: Format decision help please

I use EAC (Exact Audio Copy) for ripping CD's to FLAC, but it's not always the easiest app to set up. EAC gives you better error correction and a peace of mind that the tracks are ripped accurately. FLAC, as any lossless audio codec, can be converted to any other format you have the codec for, but w...

Re: Format decision help please

I prefer MP3 and FLAC. MP3 as you said has a lot wider support, and at quality setting -V0 (similar to your 256 vbr) I find it good enough in most circumstances. I use FLAC for all new media since: 1. it seems to be the more widely supported lossless format across different players and applications ...

Re: 3.1 improvements over 3.0.7?

Here are some of the features which users, myself included, found enjoyable during the beta testing cycle. Nyn Thanks for the link nynaevelan, sorry I didn't see it earlier... I hadn't realised there were so many new features (in addition to the many improvements). Still can't find anything on the ...

Re: 3.1 improvements over 3.0.7?

Thanks Lowlander and nohitter151. It's always good to know what to expect when upgrading, otherwise I'll just continue to do the same things the same way I used to without utilising the benefits of the new code. Love the new search - been hoping for this for a while, and the podcast options are very...

3.1 improvements over 3.0.7?

Are some people able to list the major improvements and features of version 3.1? I tried looking through the mantis system, but found too much noise with all the bug fixes, and even when searching for specifics I couldn't find info on the topic I wanted (ie. classical tagging). All I'm looking for i...

Re: Cutting out Blank Spots in MP3s

I don't know of any automated apps to do this, but certainly apps like MP3DirectCut can allow easy manual editing without re-compressing the mp3's. MM has the auto ability to remove silence at the beginning and ending, but not in the middle.

Re: J. River MEDIA CENTER

It seems like J. River is a dirty word around here. :D or in other words, if it went on a waltzin' Matilda with me it would end up in the bog and not come back. I am surprised that you know that tune mate. As one of our unofficial national anthems, it seems to be remarkably well known ...

Re: Main competitors

I like the look of Helium (similar to MM, but cleaner), and it seems very well featured. I especially like the artist browsing where the artist pics are shown, and also the statistics page. From what I've read in their forum, it also has it's own fair share of problems, but is looking very promising...

Re: Main competitors

I've always assumed the main competitors to be: 1. WMP (pre-installed, and so many people don't bother trying something else - but I found it unable to do what's required for my collection, and slower) 2. iTunes (INCREDIBLY sluggish on my computer, and thus too painful to use in any meaningful way. ...

Re: A few questions about mediamonkey from long-time WMP user.

Great to hear it's all solved :) Feel free to ask questions any time. I've found this community very good for helping anyone out with difficulties. It's often tricky to pick up on any new app's idiosyncrasies. Once you're comfortably up and running, you might like to browse through the scripting for...

Re: A few questions about mediamonkey from long-time WMP user.

WAV files seem to have a non-standardised file tag system, and so I'm not sure MM will read/write any metadata for WAV files, storing it only in the database. When you try adding these files, are you doing so by the "Add/Rescan Tracks to the Library" menu item? If so, you'll need to make s...

Re: A few questions about mediamonkey from long-time WMP user.

I've had a little play, since I don't use the "Show by album art" screen very much, and I can understand your problem now... The situation stems from the fact that tracks are hidden for the Show Album Art View mode. Since the tracks are not listed in this view, the track order is dependant...
