Re: Zoomed Screen Window Controls Ignored

One possibly relevant factor: The native resolution on the MS Surface Book that I uses for MMM2 is high, and so the effective font size of the system text is way to small for me to read, even with glasses. I therefore set the sytem display scale to 250%. I know that this has produced a display effect with partial obscuration of the Portable Intallation control for the setup dialog, so maybe that has an effect here too in displacing the mouse rollover zones for those controls from the screen layout. If noone else reports the issue then I'm happy to assume it is local to my setup.

Zoomed Screen Window Controls Ignored

by MattTown » Sat May 18, 2024 3:19 am

Hi,

Following on from my post "Screen Zoom" in Need Help, I'm reporting here a repeatable problem with the window controls for a zoomed screen. Basically, after you have used the Windows screen zoom control (CTRL+Mousewheel on my system - mouse is set to "one line at at time" in Win mouse settings), the MMW screen correctly paints with a (usefully) smaller font and all in-window user interactions work normally, but the window controls at top right (mini player, minimise, restore, close window) stop responding to the mouse.

Process:
  • Get MMW running full screen - mouse movement over window controls highlights controls and actions the window as expected.
  • Zoom window out two steps (two mouse wheel clicks back)
  • All MMW mouse interactions work as per usual, except mouse movement over window controls is not registered, so can't control the screen from those.
  • Zoom window back in two steps, window controls become available again.
This is not fatal because I don't use the mini player, don't usually try to minimise MM and at any time can right click on the toolbar icon for MM to close it if necessary. But it is an anomaly in the user interface for a fairly fundamental control and might put off some less-experienced users.

Happy to submit a debug log if you can't reproduce, though if MM doesn't see the mouse rolling over the control then it wouldn't show in the log, would it?

Cheers

Matt

Thanks Lowlander, but I don't want to mess with the system global settings, and the CTRL+MouseWheel works well for my purposes.

I think more attention is needed to the non-responsiveness of the windows controls when zoomed.

You can use Text Size and DPI Settings in Windows (but they're global) and some Skins have options for increased text size.

Screen Zoom

Just a note about something that I discovered by accident with version 3018 & 3019.

I use a relatively small laptop screen for MMW and so fitting all desired info on the main list is a continuing struggle. MM has no view zoom commands that I am aware of (and none in the Hotkeys options), but I discovered by accident that MM responds to the standard Windows zoom command of CTRL+Mousewheel. Now it is a simple matter CTRL+BackWheel to zoom out to a smaller font and fit more on the screen.

However, for some reason the window controls at top right (Switch to mini/microplayer, Minimise and Restore) don't work at anything other than the native zero zoom. Repeatable test:
  • Open MMW, minimise and mediumise icons at top right of window work properly with tool tips showing.
  • With MMW screen maximised, CTRL+BackMousewheel to zoom out (text smaller) 1 level. My mouse is set to 1 row per wheel click.
  • UI works fine with (helpfully) more info on the main list, but clicking on minimise and mediumise window buttons do not show tool tips and clicking on them does nothing. The Close Mediamonkey cross at far right does show the tool tip and does action (ie close MMW).
  • Another CTRL+BackMousewheel zooms out another level, and now the Close control does not work either.
  • Zoom back out to native resolution (2x CTRL+FwdMousewheel) returns the screen to initial resolution and the window controls all work again.
This is by no means fatal but it is an anomaly. Admins might want to move this to Bugs.

Cheers
Matt
