I have used the portable installation forever, the reasons are lost in the mists of time.
The new folder default makes sense from a Dev perspective but is a user-end PITA for all of the future reinstalls we'll be doing for the evolutions of the new version.
My plan for dealing with the Installer new default to <Drive:>\MediaMonkey without losing all my MediaMonkey 5 Settings is to:
- Copy all of E:\Music Program Files\MediaMonkey 5 to a new folder in the same path,
- Rename that to E:\Music Program Files\MediaMonkey
- With the Portable option ticked, browse to E:\Music Program Files, which will add \Mediamonkey on OK, then install to that folder
- Rename E:\Music Program Files\MediaMonkey5 to Mediamonkey5 OLD
Worked fine for me, but I needed a free 3.5GB for the copied folder.
Cheers
