Hi,
If you connect with Phone onto your local VPN MMA should see Fritzbox or MM5 locally started.
Results may be different from VPN provider and their support. Personally I have handled that by running VPN Server on Router itself and assigning local IP addresses to connected clients eg. MM server is on 192.168.10.1 and Phone that connects over VPN gets 192.168.10.110, where then if I click Media Servers in MMA I see MM server available, so I can sync and play any tracks from it.
First you need to make sure that you can access router from WAN (Internet) and establish VPN connection (Possible issues are CG-NAT, WireGuard do not pass thru VPN protocols to connected client). It is not Plug and Play and needs bit of time to setup, but it is worth the effort.
