No, that's expected behavior. If you want to stop playback you can use Stop or if you want to move to next you can use Play Next.

When I remove (now playing only) the currently playing track from now playing, it does not affect the player, and the track keeps on playing.

Should it not stop playing and move to the next track?

It works for me. Please capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: viewtopic.php?t=86643

This will help a developer analyze why this happens on your setup.

I'm still seeing this in 2022.

I delete the current playing song and now the songs are no longer highlighted

2821 fixes the highlighting for me

I observe that in the "Now Playing" list (simplified list, build 2821) the track played is highlighted. This is not the case with the List option.

That right hand window is more commonly known as "Now Playing", and the currently playing track is always highlighted for me in latest beta versions.

You mentioned build 2819 - try the latest 2021 and see if that changes anything?

It happened again.

To duplicate:
1- Exit MM with song playing
2- Start MM
3- Hit Play
4- Delete track

MM advances to the next song and starts playing it. But the song(s) are no longer highlighted

The playing song in the active playlist (or whatever you call it).

The problem went away when I restarted MM, go figure
