Emply playlists not empty on phone

by gordol » Mon Jun 03, 2024 9:40 am

I have brought this up before, but I've been away from this for a while.

I have a smart/live playlist called "Not Heard", set to pull in any music item that has no "last played" timestamp so I can prioritize newly added items. In MMW5 (5.0.4.2693) this playlist is currently empty. I have synced several times since this playlist emptied out. In MMA (2.0.0.1174) this playlist is not empty, it still has three tracks in it.

Playlists will update properly on sync until it's empty on the desktop, then it stops syncing changes back down to the phone until it's no longer empty on the desktop.

Hi,

It's on our todo list for WiFi sync for MMA 2.0.1. Details at:

Empty playlists not synced

by tbm72 » Thu Aug 10, 2023 5:29 am

I don't know if it's a bug or as designed but if I have a playlist on my PC that is empty it gets deleted on my phone.

For some people it's probably not an issue but I number my playlists so they appear in specific order on my phone (eg. '01 Playlist', '02 Playlist' etc) and a couple of them are smart playlists which often end up with nothing in them.

To complicate things further I use a plugin for Tasker on my phone called Autoinput which carries out a sequence based on pressing menus on screen. If the playlist sequence goes out of order, Autoinput selects the wrong playlist.

So this is probably a very unique use-case but is there a way to make all playlists sync over to my phone, even if it's empty?

Now on b1097. Issue persists. Smart Playlist that is empty in MMW has one track in MMA.

It has never worked for me with MMW5 on the desktop. There is probably ticket history from me about this on the support site.

Hi Gordol,

I can't replicate the behavior you're describing (I tested both with regular and auto-playlists). If a playlist in MMW is empty then sync operations always either delete the playlist in MMA (bug 18526) or empty it.

Any idea what may be different about this particular playlist/config? Or is this never working for you?

Faster than I thought. I have another playlist that shows as empty in MMW. This is the sync setting in MMA for "MediaMonkey Library (PC Name)". I note that there is also a "MediaMonkey Server (PC Name)" that has no WiFi sync settings.

That playlist shows 16 tracks in MMA and zero in MMW, after making this change.

Making that change now. Playlist in question still has about a dozen tracks in it that I'm slowly listening to, so it'll be a few days.

The option to delete playlists in MMA is in Options > Library & Sync > Wi-fi Sync:Sync settings > Delete from device [None | Unselected server files | All unselected files ]

The latter 2 options delete files and playlists from the device.

No, the other way. I cannot find a setting to remote empty playlists from MMA.

Hi,
There is no setting. For me as soon as playlist contain a single track it will be synced to MMA.

Ok, where is this setting because I can't find it.

As soon as playlist gets repopulated it will be sent to MMA on Sync. At least it do on my tests.

rusty wrote: Mon Jul 10, 2023 4:34 pm Strange. I'm not seeing the behavior of the last track failing to be removed from the playlist. I'm seeing:

- Re-syncing an (auto)playlist that has been updated from x tracks to 0 tracks deletes the playlist on the device initially and then on subsequent syncs, it resyncs the empty playlist (this is a bug tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=18526 )
- Syncing an (auto)playlist with 0 tracks syncs the playlist with 0 tracks in it (as it probably should)

I am not even seeing an option in the sync profile settings or main settings in MMW to delete empty playlists. But as stated elsewhere, I do not want the empty playlists to be deleted, I want them to be empty.

MMW Do not sync Empty Playlists, MMA retain its last state till you add new tracks to playlist. It is by design.
IMO, this is unexpected behavior that presents as a bug.
MMW/MMA deletes all playlists when you delete content on device on each sync. You can't have both as if MMW sync empty playlists you can end up with hundreds of ghost playlists (Like me).
The playlist exists with no content in MMW as it should in this situation. I do not want the playlist deleted from the system as it is a Smart Playlist that can auto-populate as content and meta-data change. MMA should directly mirror this.
