Hello and sorry for digging up this topic,

I just wanted to see if there is any news regarding support for the DoP protocol for DSD/DSF files, as well as direct transfer to dsd format? I recently purchased the Topping D10s DAC and MM remains the player of choice for me except for one small detail: DoP support. Unless I missed the option? Thanks in advance for any input.

Get roon, JRiver or Audirvana; you will need equipment that supports this. Vox will convert automatically dsd to PCM. A number of programs have moved ahead of Media Monkey, which has decided to move backwards and invest its MM5 resources in supporting MP3 only Google Play.

Hi - I see that support for DSD is going to be added in MMW 5.0 (feature 0012458). Will this just be for DACs that support DSD natively or will you also be putting in a Codec that transcodes DSD to PCM obviating the need for a DAC change? Obviously the latter would be fab. Best John

Hi Pavle - agreed concerning Sony and their continued championing of "white elephant" formats; though to be fair they did specify CD with Philips. The reason that I brought up DSD is that there's just been an article in Hi-Fi World (Sep 2013 p10) extolling the virtues of DSD and I notice that a small but growing number of DACs are supporting it - probably due to the newly ratified DoP (DSD over PCM) standard.

I would say WOW as MMW is in the list but as non supported, I've listened SACD and same tracks in HQ FLAC and frankly FLAC sounded better.

EDIT: About Sony, they tend to support (Read "sc**w") big time some format that would archive greatness. Occasionally they score some eg. Blue-Ray even ATRAC and MiniDisks Failed. Was Video disks theirs also, beta MAX can't remember all ???

It seems that Sony is actively promoting this format again for downloadable files (see [url]http://audiogate.bluecoastrecords.com/[/url] where you can download 3 DSD free downloads) - so an input plug-in that supports it would be great. [url]http://www.teac.com/product/ud-501/getting_started/[/url] gives some information about media player support for these.

I don't know what kind of resources you need, anyway converting DSD to PCM is not at all a trivial task, even worst if you want to convert on-the-fly; so to speak, AFAIK there are only 2 PC programs available for off-line convertion (see my previous msg), Saracon is better than Audiogate but VERY expensive; the Foobar plugin is very low quality, frankly speaking I'll not use a DSD plugin for MM of the same quality ot the Foobar one, and I'll continue to convert off-line.
But, I repeat, a pass-thru for .dff files as with JRiver (to be used with a DSD compliant DAC) should be quite easy.

I second this motion. Foobar can decode DSD, and I would much prefer to use MM.

As you probably know, recently it has been discovered a trick to ripp the hi-res layer of SACDs (using a Sony PS3 with custom fimware); this way you get a DSD file (.dff extension) that may be converted in Wave/Flac, (using Korg Audiogate or Weiss Saracon), converted on-the-fly in PCM by an input plugin (like Foobar's DSDiff decoder), or passed as-is to a DSD compliant DAC.

So, I think MM developers should at least add the option of sending .DFF files via the digital output to a DAC which is DSD compliant. I'm not a programmer, but I think this task should be quite easy.
The second step, converting on-the-fly in PCM, is much more difficoult, for instance the quality of Foobar's plugin is quite poor, (on my side I get much better results converting off-line in Wave/Flac), but it could be a long term goal.
